Mixing colors is a great experiment to help little wonders learn the different
primary colors (blue, red, and yellow) and secondary colors (green, orange,
and purple). It also helps with fine motor muscles when using the pipets or
eye droppers.
Materials
• Egg Trays with water (2 artists will share one)
• Liquid Watercolors
• Empty tiny white ice cube trays (1/artist)
• Pipettes (1/artist)
What to do
- Set up the egg tray with water and the three primary colors (magenta, yellow, and cyan).
- Give each artist a tiny cube tray and pipette
- Demonstrate how to use the pipette to mix drops of the colors together taking the red, blue, or yellow water from the egg cups and dropping them into the ice cube trays.
- Encourage exploration by asking, “What if you mix these two colors together?” or “Can you make purple? Which colors did you use?” and “What new colors can you make?”
- Challenge: Fill the whole small tray with different colors!
