When you get sick and can’t work we provide Paid Sick Leave for all employees in accordance with California law and the City of Oakland’s paid sick leave requirements.

Accrual

Paid Sick Leave begins accruing on your first day of employment at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked. Your available Sick Leave balance is shown on your wage statement.

90-Day Waiting Period

You may begin using accrued Paid Sick Leave after you have completed 90 days of employment with Corner House Studio.

Requesting Paid Sick Leave

1. Notify your manager (via text or phone call)
2. Request Sick Time in Gusto
   1. Gusto App → Time → Time Off → Request Time Off

Notifying your Manager

Because staffing impacts safety and the family experience:

• If you know you’ll need Sick Leave, please give at least 24 hours’ notice before your next shift whenever possible so we can arrange coverage.
• If your need is unexpected (sudden illness or emergency), notify your manager as soon as you can, even if it’s less than 24 hours before your shift.

Contact your manager directly using the fastest method available (typically text or phone call for day-of needs).

Requesting Sick Time in Gusto

Gusto App → Time → Time Off → Request Time Off

Your manager will receive an email to approve the time off.

Documentation

Corner House Studio may request reasonable documentation when permitted by law (for example, for extended or repeated absences). We will not ask you to share private medical details.
