Slack
Slack is our default for all internal updates, questions, and information. It is asynchronous by default: share clear info, respond when you’re working, and keep messages organized.
On-the-clock: reading/responding to Slack is work time.
- Start of shift: clock in → check
#announcements + any @mentions/DMs
- During shift: check slack during natural breaks
- End of shift: quick scan before you head out
Off shift: no one is expected to monitor or respond.
Slack Rules
- By end of each shift: acknowledge any @mentions/DMs & respond
- Use channels & reply in threads to keep channels readable
- Use reactions to reduce noise: ✅ done / 👀 seen / ❓ question
- Keep kids info out of slack. No full names, medical info, or incident specifics—use initials + “see incident report” if necessary.
- For child safety or facility emergencies: call/text, don’t slack
Text & Phone
We text or call when something can’t wait:
- Last-minute schedule changes or running late
- Emergency coverage: same-day gaps that affect ratio/safety
